“ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
We are already forgiven and made righteous in God’s sight by the blood of Jesus. Yet, we are in a body of flesh and do sin. We need to ask for God’s forgiveness as we acknowledge the sin and repent. He is faithful and forgives us. Nothing in the past need weigh down our hearts or cause us to feel burdened. Nothing should trouble our conscience once we confess it to the Lord and understand we are forgiven. It is God’s grace that gives us what we do not deserve and His mercy that holds back what we do deserve. So, we should not ignore or make His grace to us ineffective by condemning ourselves or suffering with a guilty conscience.
We need to ask Him to lift the burden once we have confessed the sin so it does not interfere with our receiving His love. We have been set free because we are redeemed!
““I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins.” Isaiah 43:25
Forgiveness is such a beautiful and integral part of the gift of salvation God has given us. He does not want us to be burdened by past sins and failures but to know He does not remember them because He gave us His Son to bear the burden. So, we are seen as righteous in God’s eyes. We confess our sins to Him to keep our conscience clear and be in good fellowship with Him.
A believer cannot practice sin as a lifestyle without remorse or conviction and have the truth in him and truly know and enjoy the Lord in the power of the Holy Spirit. Reflect on the blessing you have which is made possible by the blood of Jesus.
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 From 12/29/2019
