Hold On to the Rails!

Writer's picture: DianeDiane

There I was grasping onto rock as I climbed up the mountain. I felt like I was going to slip and realized I should not have tried this without holding on to the rail provided for support. Was it pride that I could climb on my own or was I trying to avoid people in the way or both?

I prayed for strength to pull myself up when my foot slipped. The Lord was gracious to pull me up so I could complete climbing and make my way to the rail.

The rails were there but I chose my own path. It was harder than I thought but the Lord was there when I cried out.

It reminds me of how in life we sometimes venture out and when we return to the Lord, He provides a way of blessing. Sometimes there are consequences. What we go through in life may not be easy, but when we venture out on our own, apart from the Lord, it is that much harder.

Pride and self-sufficiency can keep us from holding onto the “life lines” that God provides in our life. What seemed impossible could have caused me to freeze and get stuck. When I prayed and trusted the Lord to help me, He kept my foot from stumbling.

I can trust Him the same way with the bigger cares and concerns I have. He will provide a way and prove Himself faithful.
