Happy Independence Day! There is no greater freedom than to have a clear view of Jesus Christ, who He is, and what He has done for those who believe and to live in that knowledge.
“And He will destroy on this mountain The surface of the covering cast over all people, And the veil that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death forever, And the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces; The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; For the Lord has spoken.
And it will be said in that day: “Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the Lord; We have waited for Him; We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.” Isaiah 25:7-9
What is the covering and the veil? I think it is blindness to Jesus, unbelief, and inability to see God. To those who do see and believe in Him, He is the Savior and Lord. The world lies in darkness due to sin and is blind to God’s love as they follow their own desires, the philosophy of the world and the enemy has blinded them to the gospel of Jesus.
Paul says in 2 Corinthians 3:15,16 that when Moses read the law, there was a veil over the eyes of the Israelites. Only when one turns to Jesus, can the veil be lifted. In verses 17 and 18, Paul says that the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty. Liberty is found wherever God’s Spirit resides. Once we can have the veil lifted from our faces, we can see God and see the glory of Jesus, we can be transformed into His image. We were created in God’s image but through sin we became distorted, subject to decay, and separated from God. It is Jesus, by His blood that paid for sins and reconciles us to God and the Holy Spirit who He gave us, that give us the freedom to live as righteous and have power, comfort, wisdom and correction to become the people He has called us to be.
God’s love removes what blinds us and gives us the beautiful vision of a good life and abundant grace. The veil, if not removed, keeps people from seeing God. Freedom comes by the Spirit when we receive the grace to see who God is.
