The Sanctuary

A sanctified life is never a waste of time. Even though others around you may prosper, we must not lose faith or give up. Asaph was perplexed about how the wicked prosper and seem to have easy lives and fortune, and he started to question if living according to God’s commands was worth it. So, in Psalm73:1-12, he discusses how the wicked and ungodly prosper. Then he starts in Psalm 73:13-16 to question God and why He allows this.

Then in Psalm 73:17, he writes, “Until I went into the sanctuary of God; Then I understood their end.” The sanctuary is the Presence of God that makes all things clear. When Asaph entered the sanctuary, then all came into focus. He saw life from God’s perspective. There is an end to life on earth and then eternity.

In the Old Testament, the sanctuary was the place of worship or the temple in Asaph’s day. It allowed him to refocus on the world around him to God above. (P. 128 from Living the Psalms Life by Dave Branon) The influence of the world and our own thinking, especially when we compare ourselves to others, can turn us away from truth. The remedy is to get into God’s Presence.

For us as believers in Jesus, we have access to the sanctuary at all times because God gave us the Holy Spirit to indwell us and we have His Word. God’s Presence is free and always available. Finding God Himself as our “sanctuary” is in His Presence where we go to refocus. From 1/10/2020
