I was planning to post this yesterday as a connected follow-up to "Take My Life", but got delayed. In an article by Thomas Brooks who lived in the 1600's, entitled "Thirsting and Longing", he shared how one of the greatest ways to have communion with God is to thirst and long after fellowship with God in prayer. That means not just reading off the prayer list or routine praying but putting you entire heart and soul into it, as yesterdays verse stated. Prayer in the Spirit and with all your heart is communion with God. We are called to pray for our needs and the needs of others but it is not prayer as a duty but prayer as an exercise of your entire being. Some verses that describe this thirsting after and longing for communion with God are listed here.
O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. Psalm 63:1,2
As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? Psalm 42:1,2
My soul longs, yes, even faints For the courts of the Lord; My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Psalm 84:2
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13
People will know you have been with Jesus when you spend true communion with Him in spirit with all your heart. Just like Moses' face shone in Exodus 34:29-35 after he met with God.
And so surrendering your life, seeking with all your heart, and praying earnestly and fervently all draw us nearer to God and Jesus who we owe all to. Have a blessed day.
